Sleeping mask and ear plugs
The difference between bringing and not bringing these is huge. Seriously. Just think of all the crying babies, laughing adults and blinking signs going on and off throughout your flight and you will realize that this is truly a necessity.
After hours upon hours of waiting in airports and sleeping on airplanes you are going to feel a bit mucky. With these you can clean off even in a cramped airplane bathroom and arrive feeling slightly more human. Also perfect to wipe off your hands before you dig in to your snack box!
Yes they do often hand these out for free during your flight too but most people who have had an earful (haha) of those while flying coach will know it´s worth it bringing your own. A great way to fend off an unnecessary headache.
Headaches and lower back pain often go hand in hand with longhaul flights. Bringing these might be obvious but oh-so easy to forget in the midst of packing for your great adventure. Don´t. Eleven hours later and that little nagging ache doesn´t feel so little anymore.
Try to stick to natural snacks with as little sugar and caffeine as possible, especially if you suffer from flight anxiety. Fruit, dark chocolate and dried fruits will get you far in the hours between the airplane meals. (Please be respectful to anyone suffering from nut allergies if you opt for a nut mix)
Although there´s probably plenty of entertainment available on-flight, your eyes are going to thank you for bringing something that is not on a screen. If there ever was a time to allow yourself to read your favorite magazine from front to back in one go, this is the time.
Probably the least attractive subject on here today. However suffering from diarrhea on a 12-hour flight is possibly even less attractive. To avoid being allocated a toilet rather than a seat, make sure you have these within easy reach.
Tooth paste and tooth brush mini version
Nothing feel quite as fresh as a minty breath and clean teeth, does it? Pack a mini-sized version of each and you can use it throughout your trip.
Inflatable neck cushion
The smallest can easily fit into the palm of your hand when not inflated so there really aren´t any reasons to not bring one. Of course there are often times pillows in the airplane, but trying to get those to stay behind your neck when your head flops down during sleep can be difficult.
So obvious yet so often overlooked. This really is the most important thing you can bring. Sitting still in an airplane is not the same as sitting still at home. In order to not get dehydrated you will need to drink the same amount of water as you would doing a medium work out.
